It is a huge privilege and a great honour to have been re-elected to serve our local community and our great country in Parliament for the fourth time. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and to assure those who didn't that I will continue to work hard and represent every single person who lives in our constituency however they voted.
The British people have given us a clear mandate to resolve the Brexit impasse and deliver on the referendum result of 2016 so that we can move on to address the nation’s other priorities. We want to give the NHS the biggest cash boost in history, put 20,000 more police on the streets, invest in our schools, and to build at least a million more homes.
As well as these national priorities, we must use the mandate given to us to pursue important priorities for our local community. I will continue to champion our local defence and aerospace industries to ensure we continue to have a thriving local economy with high-quality jobs. I will do my part to ensure that we build enough houses to meet local needs in this highly desirable community. Finally, for our area to remain an ideal place to live and work we will need to invest in infrastructure, roads, buses and rail.
A cause very dear to my heart is social mobility. Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the opportunity to fulfil their potential regardless of background or circumstance, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. That is why I will be working with schools and colleges to help deliver our manifesto pledge of increased funding for education. I will also be working with industry and businesses to ensure that we deliver on the manifesto pledge to significantly increase the numbers of new apprentices for all big infrastructure projects – offering a chance for people to build new skillsets whilst also playing a role in our mission to upgrade the nation’s transport networks, and hospitals.
