Yesterday, GKN Aerospace announced plans for a new £32m Global Technology Centre. The announcement was made by Hans Büthker, CEO GKN Aerospace, and Rt Hon. Greg Clark MP, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, on a visit to GKN’s Western Approach site in Bristol.
The new Global Technology Centre is jointly funded by GKN Aerospace and the UK Government through the Aerospace Technology Institute, and will be a world-class hub for the development of the innovative technology needed for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft.
The 10,000sq metre Global Technology Centre will be adjacent to the Filton site and is due to open it 2020. It will also be the base for GKN Aerospace’s partnership in the Airbus’ ‘Wing of Tomorrow’ technology programme – and will position the UK at the forefront of the development of the next generation of aircraft.

“The announcement of GKN Aerospace’s new facility is extremely exciting news for the aerospace industry in the region. I am pleased that GKN Aerospace and the Government have collaborated to fund a project that, despite Brexit, ensures the UK’s position at the forefront of the aerospace industry.”
“Furthermore, it will provide a further 300 highly skilled aerospace engineering jobs in our area, as well as include a collaborative space for research with universities and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, while supporting the UK’s industrial strategy.”
