Last week I visited Ukraine, not only to show our support in this time of war, but also to discuss further collaboration between British and Ukrainian defence sectors so that the Ukrainians have the tools they need to win. As an MP representing a constituency with one of Europe’s largest defence clusters, the visit was very productive. I met with Ukrainian government ministers, armed forces personnel and manufacturers where we discussed ensuring Ukraine have the equipment they need for victory.
I spoke Ukrainian media, such as 1+1 TV about Britain's unwavering support for Ukraine. My message is clear: this war is about more than just Ukraine; it's a matter of safeguarding the future of Europe and the wider world.
I was Delighted to meet again with Alexander Kamyshin , Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industries, to discuss drone capabilities and UK/Ukraine defence industry partnerships to develop the equipment needed to win this war. Kamyshin, who is instrumental in enhancing Ukraine's defence capabilities, expressed gratitude for the UK's support and is eager to explore further advancements. I had an insightful discussion with Olexandr Zavitnevych, Head of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence in the Ukrainian Parliament. We discussed the great achievement of training more than 30,000 Ukrainians in the UK since June 2022 and learning from Ukraine's advanced electronic warfare and drone capabilities. Pleased to meet with Stanislav Zavyalov, Director of Radionix. We discussed developing further partnerships between the UK and Ukrainian defence industries. It was incredibly interesting to hear of the equipment they are developing to defend their country.
It was Great to meet with Oleksiy Honcharuk, former Prime Minister of Ukraine, to discuss the nation's world-leading drone technology. His insights into how this technology can secure victory were enlightening. Ukraine's innovative edge in drones is crucial for success. I had a Productive meeting with Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine. Our discussion covered various topics, including the crucial role of technology on the front line.
An honour to meet Yuliia, who serves her country and whose husband was one of the magnificent and brave defenders of Mariupol who was tortured by the Russians as a prisoner of war.
In Poltova Oblast, I met with armed forces personnel, local residents, Governor Filip Pronin and Archbishop Fedir. Witnessing the steadfast courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people first-hand has been inspiring.
Their combined dedication to Ukraine's protection shines as a profound reflection of the nation's enduring strength and fortitude.
